Need help installing Java 64 bit on Windows, please help.?

I have tried installing Java 64 bit on my windows 7 64 bit computer and its not working, 32 bit works fine but I need the 64 bit for my server. I have installed the Java Jre-6u24 for windows 64bit but its not working. I updated my internet explorer to 64 bit, thought it would help somehow but it didnt. when I go to search and type Java, it comes up with Java.exe and I try to run it but i just get the cmd for 1/2 a seconds then it closes.
