How to get rid of a virus..?

ive managed to pick up a virus called 'spyware protection' and i can't seem to get rid of it:/ ive looked at lots of websites and its told me to go on control panel and the system restore only thing is this the virus wont let me open the system restore bit. A little window pops up and sort of screams at me and it says ive got lots of malware stuff detected. does anyone know how to get rid of it?
